Understanding the regulatory system
The company has extensive experience in the application of legislation and policies that guide decision-making on flora and fauna protection and management, based on extensive contact and discussions over many years with key regulatory bodies, including:
- Referrals and assessments under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999;
- Native vegetation assessments, net gain reporting and offset plans under the Victorian ‘net gain’ policy and similar assessments under the New South Wales Native Vegetation Act 2003 and Native Vegetation Regulation 2005; and
- Threatened species impact assessments under applicable policies and legislation covering all Australian states.
Practical solutions to add value
Increasingly, environmental regulation places emphasis on improved environmental outcomes, not just preventing or minimising impacts. ‘Net Gain’ or ‘offsets’ are words now commonly used by regulators and principles that increasingly guide development planning. Crucially, the potential requirements of net and offsets need to inform the business case for developments. We regularly identify unforeseen opportunities to add value to projects, not just for clients but for the environment, ensuring a genuine approach to satisfying regulatory requirements and community expectations.
From government natural resource planning and management, to small property development
sites, to infrastructure, energy and mining investments, our experience has
given us an excellent appreciation of the challenges of solving ecological problems
and meeting today’s complex regulatory standards.
We would welcome discussing your project and helping you develop an approach that ensures these requirements and expectations can be met. Contact us
